Our staff are based in The Wave, the home of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and across the road in Elmfield. The Wave offers the newest lecture theatres on campus, plenty of collaborative and private study spaces, and a cafe.

Elmfield features state-of-the-art seminar rooms and a communal student room to study and socialise.  Teaching may take place across both buildings, as well as other buildings on campus which are only a short walk away.

Management School students are based in our building on Conduit Road.

Landscape architecture is about the design, planning and management of places that benefit people and nature. Landscape architects create spaces between buildings that are both inspirational and functional. If you have a flair for creativity and a passion for improving the environment and people's lives, then landscape architecture could be for you.

You'll learn from experts who are involved in some of the most exciting landscape design work in the world today.

Sheffield is a dynamic city and an ideal place in which to study landscape architecture. Its changing face has been shaped by school-led initiatives like Grey to Green and Love Square, which give students the chance to be involved with live projects and see the difference landscape architecture can make. Sheffield combines the urban with awe-inspiring views of the neighbouring Peak District, making it a rich learning and research environment.

School of Architecture and Landscape students are based in the Arts Tower; an iconic building with panoramic views across Sheffield. You'll also attend lectures at venues across campus and travel further afield for site visits.

Our studios facilitate digital and hands-on design practice and supply everything you’ll need, including drawing boards, a wireless network and kitchen space.

The newly opened Print and Make workshop, which comes equipped with an array of mechanical and hand tools - from laser cutters, CNC routers, bandsaws and a casting room - helps you to develop your understanding of how to design and craft with different materials.

Journalism at Sheffield extends beyond the university. Our team of tutors at the School of Education comprises of experts in early childhood education, policy and practice, psychological theory of education, and languages and education. Many of our academic staff are internationally recognised in their specialist areas.

Our graduates go into educational leadership and management, educational journalism and publishing, educational research, community education and development, early years services, youth, charity and educational welfare work.

The degree is a sound basis for further training in a range of fields including social work, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy. If you're interested in teaching, you could progress onto a primary or early years PGCE. Or you may decide to stay on for a masters or PhD so you can specialise in an area that interests you.

School of Economics

The School of Economics is based in the Elmfield building, close to The Wave, the new home for the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Wave features state-of-the-art collaborative lecture theatres, study spaces and seminar rooms.

Teaching may take place in Elmfield, The Wave, or in other buildings across campus, many of which are close together so it’s easy to walk between them and it’s a great way to get to know the city. You will also be close to our Students' Union and central libraries.

Our state-of-the-art classrooms are in the same building as our staff offices. You'll also have your own social space with computer access.

Through our internationally acclaimed teaching and research, we explore the social, spatial and environmental implications of architecture. As a Sheffield student, you will engage with real issues affecting the built environment and specifically the challenges of the Climate Emergency and zero carbon design.

We encourage you to explore ideas and collaborate with other students. Through group tutorials and peer review you'll learn how to express your opinions, and value the opinions of others. Sheffield is the perfect place to develop your personality as a designer.

We provide a balance of theory, design work and professional experience delivered within the context of a strong studio culture. The studio acts as a laboratory for trialling your creative and critical ideas, and for developing fundamental architectural skills. You'll share ideas during group tutorials, collaborate and review other students' work. This encourages you to express your own opinion and to value the opinions of others, as you begin to develop your personality as a designer.

Our graduates often go into architectural practice for a year or two before doing a two-year MArch in Architecture - either at Sheffield or another school. They also pursue careers in the built environment or move on to a specialist masters course.

Employers include AHMM, ARUP, Building Design Partnership, Haworth Tompkins Architects, Feilden Clegg Bradley, Grimshaw Architects, Hawkins\Brown, and Penoyre & Prasad.

Graduates of our degree courses are well prepared for a career in roles such as: built environment consultant, government and local authority advisor, creative and strategic policy maker, architectural critic and journalist, arts and heritage manager and design and illustration.

The School of Architecture and Landscape sits high up in the Arts Tower, offering unrivalled panoramic views across Sheffield and beyond. This is where you will spend the majority of your time in the design studio.

You'll also attend lectures across the campus and take advantage of our drawing studios and facilities for woodwork, metalwork, casting and architectural model making.

Our generous open-plan studios promote collaboration and you will be able to take advantage of our facilities for woodwork, metalwork, casting and architectural model making.

You'll also have access to the latest digital techniques in our computer labs. Workshops and tutorials are embedded into each course to ensure you have the skills you need.

If you've received an offer to study with us, we'll invite you to one of our offer holder days, which take place between February and April. These open days have a strong department focus and give you the chance to really explore student life here, even if you've visited us before.
