This unit focuses on the development of transferable skills which are concerned with communicating and the management of a student's future career. In co-ordination with the University's career advice service, instruction in presentation and career management skills via a combination of lectures and workshops will provide students with the background information to assist in making career choices, preparation of CVs/covering letters, presentations and job interviews. Taking advantage of expertise from within the department students will receive detailed hands-on instruction in how to construct and prepare material for publication on the World Wide Web.

This unit allows students to develop their own in-depth project based on an individual research theme and the synthesized knowledge and skills gained from all previous units required for this programme.This unit describes Digital Design Thesis Project by design or by written thesis.

This module addresses the foundations of social research: what needs to be established before a research project can be conducted. It has five main focuses

1. The philosophical foundations upon which social scientific research is based

2. The process of establishing the current state of the art in a given field of social science

3. Establishing an appropriate study design for a given research question

4. What happens during and after the process of conducting research

5. The relevant professional skills required by researchers

The module combines both conceptual and practical issues in the social sciences. It provides students with a toolkit to design and conduct an entire research project independently from a range of different philosophical and methodological perspectives.

This module will allow candidates to explore both short and long term physiological adaptions to extreme environments. These conditions will include hypo- and hyperbaric environments, exercise physiology, extremes of temperature and those conditions experienced during short and long duration spaceflight. The module will be delivered as a series of lectures with one practical session. Assessment of the module will be a combination of an MCQ / short answer exam and coursework.

This module is designed to provide students with knowledge of the biochemistry, physiology and pathology of human pregnancy, fetal development, and parturition. Lectures will cover a recap of implantation, and provide details of the maternal biochemical and physiological changes associated with pregnancy, birth and the puerperium, and will give an overview of key processes during fetal development. Disorders of pregnancy, fetal development, labour and delivery will be taught, and emphasis will be placed on the commoner clinical problems and their solutions. Various clinical sequalae associated with pregnancy will be introduced and broad range of clinical and underpinning scientific scenarios will be covered.
